Beachfront "Bliss"
Literally on the sandy beach, with Pittwater views that make it very easy to lose track of time, Bliss is made for relaxing, rewinding and rejuvenating. Built in 1961 by the Anderson family as Great Mackerel Beach’s first purpose-built beach house, they called it “Bliss”—come and stay and you will soon see why. Geoff and Mark bought the house from the Andersons and have lovingly restored it, holding on to its easy 60s beach-house soul while making it wonderfully comfortable for today. A Private Beach base on Pittwater
A 1961 beach house directly on the sandy shores of Great Mackerel Beach—with wide water views, easy all-tide beach access and a unique boatshed made for long days by the water.
Bliss sits right on the beach with a beautiful north-east aspect and expansive views across Pittwater. Reach us by the regular ferry or water taxi from Palm Beach—or, for a particularly memorable arrival, arrange a barge or punt through Barrenjoey Boating Services to bring you, your luggage and your supplies to the beach in front of Bliss.
Inside, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master bedroom forms a private parents’ retreat, with its own deck and bathroom—somewhere to enjoy a quiet coffee, a book or simply the changing light over the water.
More than a boatshed
Right by the sand, the Bliss boatshed is a second living space for beach days. It holds kayaks and floaties, but it is also part beach kitchen, part drinks bar, part home gym and part very scenic office. Use the cooking facilities and sink for lunch by the water, keep food and drinks cold in the wine fridge and half fridge, use the weights and bench for a workout, or take a Zoom call if you must—just do not let your colleagues see the view.
It has everything you need for cocktails, a barbecue and long, relaxed lunches by the water. With the sandy beach directly in front, it is easy to move between a swim, a paddle, lunch and an afternoon on the deck without packing up the day.
A proper escape
Bliss is made for relaxing, rewinding and taking a pause from everyday life. When you feel like moving, follow one of the nearby national-park walks or take a kayak around Pittwater. One of our favourite rituals is an early paddle across to Palm Beach for a freshly made muffin from the cafe underneath the golf club.
This is a true getaway: no cars, no shops and no hurry. If you are looking for spas, five-star hotel glamour or celebrity spotting, Palm Beach or Whale Beach may be more your style. At Bliss, it is about the beach, the bush, the water and the wonderfully chilled rhythm of Mackerel Beach.
Where is Bliss?
Under an hour from central Sydney to Palm Beach and then a short ferry, barge or water-taxi straight across Pittwater to Great Mackerel beach and "Bliss".
The house is just a walk along the sand with your wheelbarrow full of goodies for your stay - there are no shops at Great Mackerel Beach so everything must be bought with you.
Bliss has the basic condiments to enable you to cook up a storm or just throw some food on the barbie for the simple life.
